1,500 sued in 3 cases over Ashulia RMG factory vandalism

Factories authorities filed cases amid movement


At least 1,500 people were sued in three separate cases filed at the Ashulia police station in connection with the vandalism of factories in Ashulia. 

The cases were filed by the factory authorities amid the ongoing movement to demand an increase in the wages of the workers.

Ashulia police confirmed the case on Sunday afternoon. Earlier, the three affected factory authorities filed a case on Saturday night.

The vandalized factories are Chain Apparels Ltd in Kathgara area of Ashulia, Ha-Meem Group's Next Collections Ltd in Beron Sarkar Market area and Design Sweaters Ltd in Dhanaid Yusuf Market area.

According to the statement, agitated workers and outsiders ransacked Chain Apparels in Kathgara around 11am on October 31. Anisur Rahman, DGM of the factory, filed a case against 400-500 unnamed people in the incident. 

Design Sweater factory in Dhanaid area was vandalized around 9:30am on the same day. A case was filed against 300-400 anonymous workers and external agitators in this incident. 

Besides, an attack took place at Ha-Meem Group's Next Collections Limited on October 30 around 8:30am. On that day, the factory workers and officials were seriously injured in the attack. 

The damage in the factory is about Tk3.5 crore. In this incident, a case was filed against at least 500-600 unknown people. 

The administrative officer of Next Collections Limited Md Farhad Uddin said: “A case was filed at Ashulia police station on Saturday. On Sunday, our factory workers are back to work.”

Dhaka district Additional Superintendent of Police Md Abdullahil Kafi said that the workers have returned to work since Sunday morning. However, the police are on alert to keep the situation normal.
