Exact reasons would become clearer after questioning her
Police have located Preeti Khandker Halima, a candidate for vice-chairman post in the upcoming Brahmanbaria Upazila Parishad elections, who had gone missing while campaigning.
She was found in the Kanchpur area of Narayanganj on Thursday morning.
Preeti is being transported to Bijoynagar police station in Brahmanbaria.
Bijoynagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Asadul Islam confirmed the information.
He mentioned that Preeti's disappearance had initially seemed mysterious, prompting an investigation after receiving a written complaint from her family.
On Thursday morning, Preeti called her husband's phone from an unknown number. Police tracked her location based on the call and took her into custody with the help of Sonargaon police station in Narayanganj.
A team from Bijoynagar police station then set out to bring her back to Bijoynagar.
OC Asadul Islam suggested that Preeti might have voluntarily disappeared to gain voter sympathy. However, he noted that the exact reasons would become clearer after questioning her.
Preeti's husband, Masud Khandker, said that the polling for Bijoynagar upazila elections is scheduled for June 5. Preeti is contesting for the position of female vice-chairman with the “lotus” symbol. He mentioned that her candidacy faced issues due to a server error in submitting her nomination papers, which was later resolved by the High Court.
Preeti went missing on Tuesday afternoon while campaigning in Harshpur Union with two associates. She was last seen talking to voters in Rishi Para of Harshpur. When her associates entered the area after 20 minutes, they found her missing. The incident was reported to the assistant returning officer, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, and the police station, with a general diary filed at the police station.
