Budget will help bring down prices of essentials, Quader hopes
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has described the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 as practical and pro-people.
Quader’s comment came in parliament just after Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali unveiled the proposed budget on Thursday afternoon.
Mentioning economic challenges, Quader, who is also the general secretary of the ruling Awami League, said the budget was based on his party’s election pledges.
The budget would help bring prices of essentials under control, Quader hoped.
Responding to a question whether the budget had been formed following the International Monetary Fund’s prescription, Quader replied in the negative saying Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government did not follow anyone’s prescriptions.
Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali presented the proposed budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year amounting to Tk797,000 crore (Tk7.97 trillion) in parliament on Thursday.
This was his first budget unveiling and the first budget after the reelection of the Awami League government in January.
