Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh announced that the construction of the fire-ravaged Bangabazar market will begin after the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

He made the statement while addressing an iftar distribution event during Ramadan, organized by the councillor of Ward No. 20 at Segunbagicha Community Centre in the capital, on Wednesday afternoon.

The mayor outlined the extensive development plans for the ward, including the restoration of the damaged market, with a budget exceeding Tk600 crore.

He said: “Business activities would continue as usual in Bangbazar until the next Eid-ul-Fitr. After Eid, the construction of a new market will commence.”

Taposh mentioned that the tender process is nearly finalized, and arrangements will be made to support those affected by the market fire.

He expressed hope that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would inaugurate the construction by laying the foundation stone.

Highlighting the prime minister's commitment to alleviating people's hardships, Taposh praised Sheikh Hasina's dedication to advancing Bangladesh. He emphasized her holistic approach, addressing the needs of people from all walks of life.

Taposh cited the prime minister's initiatives, such as providing TCB cards to 10 million families amid global price hikes due to the pandemic and conflicts. Through these cards, essential commodities are distributed at fair prices, demonstrating the government's efforts to alleviate the common people's suffering.
