Quader meets ministers to address growing anti-quota protests

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader held a meeting with two ministers and two state ministers on Monday.

The meeting included Law Minister Anisul Huq, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, State Minister for Education Shamshun Nahar Chapa, and State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat.

Obaidul Quader first held a press conference at the Awami League president's political office in Dhanmondi at 12:30pm.

Following the press conference, he met with the ministers and state ministers in the office secretary's room, with Awami League Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua also present.

Sources from the Dhanmondi office indicated that the discussions centred on various aspects of the anti-quota movement, including the possibility of new protests, BNP's support for the agitation, simultaneous teachers' protests, and an assessment of the current situation. However, none of the participants disclosed the details of the meeting.

When asked about the meeting, Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel said: "We discussed various issues. The issues that I have discussed are not matters to be shared with the media at the moment."

Regarding the quota movement, he added: "The matter is pending in the court, and we will not comment on it at the moment. Our position is that we will not comment on matters that are pending in court. The government has appealed, so we have to wait."

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat told reporters that the overall issue had been discussed, including political and organizational matters. He noted: "This sitting is regular. We sit regularly in different places to discuss various issues."
