872 restaurant staff arrested since Bailey Road fire

The High Court on Tuesday ordered authorities to conduct raids in hotels and restaurants in the capital as per the law.

At the same time, a rule was issued asking why harassment in the name of an operation or raid would not be declared illegal.

A High Court bench issued the rule on Tuesday after a primary hearing of a writ petition filled in this regard.

Advocate Ahsanul Karim stood for the writ petitioner.

On Monday, a writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking an end to harassment in the name of drives at hotels and restaurants in the capital.

In the writ petition, the owners of hotels and restaurants sought time to fulfill all the conditions.

On February 29, a total of 46 people were killed in a devastating fire at Green Cozy Cottage in Dhaka’s Bailey Road.

Since then, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has raided various restaurants in the capital.

In these drives, 872 people were arrested and about 20 cases were filed.
