Police picked up Anee early Wednesday Charged for obstructing police, damaging vehicles

A Dhaka court on Wednesday approved a four-day remand for BNP's Publicity Secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, in a case related to obstructing police duty and vehicle damage.

The police presented him before the court, and the investigating officer from Dhanmondi police station requested a seven-day remand for a thorough investigation.

On the other hand, the defendant's lawyers applied for bail instead of remand.

After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam approved a four-day remand for Anee.

The BNP leader was picked up by police from his Dhanmondi residence in Dhaka early Wednesday.

Police arrived at the house of Anee around 2am and asked the BNP leader to go with them to the police station, said Zahir Uddin Swapan, chief coordinator of BNP's media cell.

According to the case file, on May 23, nearly 10,000-15,000 members from various BNP factions gathered in front of Dhaka City College in Dhanmondi.

After concluding their rally, they reportedly obstructed official police work, attacked the police, damaged public property, vandalized public transport, and created chaos with local weapons and cocktails.

When the police tried to intervene, the BNP activists threw bricks and stones at them, resulting in serious injuries to police officers and personnel.

Following the incident, the police registered a case at Dhanmondi police station.
