DU student drowns in university swimming pool

Body kept at DMCH morgue
A student of Dhaka University (DU) has died by drowning in the swimming pool of the university's physical education centre.
The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Swad, 19.
He was a first-year student of the Department of Philosophy and a resident student of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall.
He was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 2:15pm, where the duty doctor declared him dead.
Two students named Sohag and Sagor, who were present on the spot, said they, along with Swad, went to the swimming pool due to the excessive heat.
The body has been kept at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy, said Md Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost.
The matter has been reported to the concerned police station, he added.
Dhaka University Proctor Prof Dr Maksudur Rahman said: "I have heard about the matter. I can tell you more about this later.”
Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall Provost Prof Dr Masudur Rahman said: "A student of Shahidullah Hall informed me about the matter over the phone. The proctor also told me. I'm on my way to the hospital. When I get there, I can tell you more about it.”
