Fatal Clash in Rangpur: Quota Reform Activist and Student Killed

Tragedy struck in Rangpur on Tuesday, July 16, as a quota reform activist and a student of Begum Rokeya University lost their lives during a clash with the police.
The incident unfolded around 2:30 PM when students supporting quota reform gathered near Lalbagh area, intending to proceed towards the Rokeya University campus. However, their movement was halted by police intervention at the campus entrance, leading to a confrontation between the protesters and law enforcement personnel.
In response to the escalating situation, police reportedly fired rubber bullets to disperse the demonstrators. Abu Saeed, a student from the 12th batch of Rokeya University's English Department and an active participant in the quota reform movement, tragically lost his life during the clash.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Moniruzzaman confirmed the incident, stating, "Students from various schools, colleges, and other educational institutions joined the quota agitators, resulting in clashes with the police. Several police officers were injured, and unfortunately, one person has died. The circumstances of his death are still under investigation."
The clash has heightened tensions in Rangpur, with authorities and community leaders urging for calm and restraint amidst the ongoing protests for quota reforms in educational and government sectors.
