2 killed in Rangamati accident

Bus-autorickshaw clash


Two people have been killed in a bus-autorickshaw accident in Vedvedi area of Rangamati city.

The incident took place around 2pm on Saturday.

The deceased were Parimala Chakma, 55, and Gaurimala Chakma, 45. Four more people were injured in this accident.

The police said after receiving information about the accident, a police, and a fire service team rescued the injured people and recovered the bodies from the spot.

The injured were taken to the Rangamati Sadar Hospital at first and then referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital because of their critical situation.

The injured are Pintu Chakma, 22, autorickshaw driver, Ripon Chakma, 37, Pari Chakma, 42, and Rickon Chakma, 28.

Eyewitness Badrul Alam said: “The bus was coming recklessly. The autorickshaw was standing with the passengers. At that time, the bus hit the autorickshaw from behind. Two people died on the spot.”

Rangamati Sadar Hospital Resident Officer Dr. Shaukat Akbar said: “Two people died in the accident. Four people were brought to the hospital with injuries and will be sent to Chittagong.”

Rangamati District Superintendent of Police Mir Abu Tauhid said: “The passenger bus hit a parked autorickshaw from behind. Two people died on the spot and the injured were sent to hospital.”

He also said that the bus driver and helper would be arrested soon. Police also seized the bus from the spot.
