Nahid: Attacking a high commission is not the behavior of a civilized nation

Nahid Islam, adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has said that the Indian government cannot evade responsibility for the attack on the Bangladesh High Commission in Agartala.

He remarked, "An attack on a high commission in this manner cannot be the behavior of a civilized nation. We assert that the Indian government cannot evade responsibility for this incident. We hold India fully accountable for this event."

He made these comments on Wednesday in a video message shared on his verified Facebook account.

Nahid Islam said, "An attack has been carried out on Bangladesh's Assistant High Commission in Agartala, and the Bangladeshi flag was forcibly taken down. In response, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has expressed regret over the incident. From Bangladesh's side, we have condemned and protested this event. We have even summoned the Indian Ambassador."

He further added: "The Indian media has been spreading exaggerated and false propaganda against Bangladesh for quite some time, which does not happen without state support. Therefore, we believe that the Indian government bears responsibility in this matter. They did not act responsibly from the beginning and have even attempted to create division."

The adviser also sadi: "Bangladesh shares a historic cultural bond with Tripura, Assam, and West Bengal. Even during the July student uprising, people from Kolkata, Jadavpur, and Delhi stood in solidarity with Bangladesh against the assassination of Sheikh Hasina. The beautiful democratic relationship between Bangladesh and India is something many do not want; they seek to create divisions between the people of Bangladesh and the rest of the country."

Nahid Islam urged India to abandon divisive politics and embrace politics of harmony. "Attacking a high commission is never the behavior of a civilized nation," he said.

He also said: "Bangladeshi people have long-standing grievances against India. This is because India unconditionally supported the fascist Hasina government, which engaged in vote rigging, abductions, and killings, and, most recently, carried out a massacre of people, including children, during the July uprising. Despite all this, India remained silent on these issues and even provided shelter to the leader of those murderers. Given these actions, it is natural for the Bangladeshi people to harbor grievances against India."

Emphasizing the need for maintaining friendly relations, Nahid said: "From our side, we appeal: we will not spread hostility against any country, nor will we disrespect any nation's flag. It is India’s responsibility to act in a manner that alleviates the grievances of the Bangladeshi people. At the same time, instead of spreading false statements and misinformation about Bangladesh, India should support Bangladesh’s rebuilding efforts. Bangladesh seeks to establish relations with all nations based on fairness and equality."
