Proposed national budget amounting to Tk797,000 crore placed in parliament on Thursday

The ruling Awami League will formally respond to the proposed 2024-25 fiscal year budget on Saturday and will also address the reactions of opposition parties.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader made the announcement after paying homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Friday (June 7), the historic Six-Point Day.

Responding to journalists' questions about the budget, he said: "Do not divert today's discussion elsewhere. We will react to the budget tomorrow (Saturday). I already gave a reaction yesterday (Thursday). It is not appropriate to keep reacting repeatedly. We will respond to the opposition's statement tomorrow (Saturday)."

An event was organized on Friday at the Awami League’s office in Tejgaon, Dhaka, in observance of the Six-Point Day. Awami League chief Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting. For this reason, party leaders said, the Awami League's response to the budget will be given on Saturday.

Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali presented the proposed budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year amounting to Tk797,000 crore (Tk7.97 trillion) in parliament on Thursday.

This marked his maiden budget unveiling and the first budget after the reelection of the Awami League government in January.
