3 Tangail traders fined for selling onions at higher rate

A mobile court in Tangail has fined three traders Tk10,000 for selling onions at double the fixed price. 

Abu Bakar Siddique, executive magistrate conducted the operation in the city's Park Bazar on Sunday afternoon. 

He said three traders were fined Tk10,000 for selling onion at higher rates. At the same time, all traders have been warned not to sell onions at higher prices than the fixed price.

He also said that their operation will continue.

Earlier, as many as 113 organizations from all over Bangladesh were fined on Saturday for overcharging onions as prices for the commodity have doubled overnight. 

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection launched a drive to reduce volatility in the onion market, according to media reports. 

On Saturday's drive, the officials fined 133 organizations Tk6.66 lakh for irregularities.

The price of onions has increased by Tk200 overnight, said Director General of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection AHM Shafiquzzaman.
