Cricket superstar and MP aspirant Shakib Al Hasan has been warmly welcomed by the locals in his maiden journey to his native district Magura since getting the nomination from ruling Awami League to contest the upcoming 12th national parliamentary election.
The Magura residents embraced Shakib Al Hasan as he arrived at the Gorai Bridge on Wednesday. Fans and local Awami League leaders and activists orchestrated an impressive convoy, ushering Shakib Al Hasan into Magura town with grandeur.
At this time, one of the vehicles in Shakib's convoy took him to the Awami League party office located in Jamrultala in the city.
There are also several cricketers who have accompanied Shakib on his journey. In particular, cricketer Rony Talukdar has been seen taking a leading role. Additionally, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat and Nazmul Hossain Apu were also seen with him.
Shakib's family mentioned that the world's best all-rounder left Dhaka at 9am. Shakib was received by a delegation from the district Awami League at the Gorai Bridge area.
Many Awami League leaders in Magura initially expressed that Shakib's nomination papers were undesirable since he was not involved in grassroots politics.
However, after an extended meeting of the district Awami League on Tuesday, the local unit of Awami League announced its unified support for Shakib Al Hasan.
On Sunday afternoon, the Awami League announced the names of their nominated candidates for 298 parliamentary seats in preparation for the 12th parliamentary election.
Cricketer Shakib Al Hasan was nominated for the Magura-1 seat.
