Alleged Yaba godfather Bodi lands in jail

Abdul Rahman Bodi, the controversial Awami League politician of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar and former member of parliament for the Cox’s Bazar-4 (Ukhiya-Teknaf) constituency, has been sent to jail.

Senior Judge Hamimun Tamjim of Cox’s Bazar Chief Judicial Magistrate passed the order when Bodi was produced before the court on Wednesday.

Ashek Elahi Shahjahan Nuri, the administrative official of the court, confirmed the matter.

Police filed a petition seeking a 5-day remand. The hearing will be held later.

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion handed him over to police at noon.

Later, he was produced before the court amid tight security at 3:10pm.

Bodi was arrested from GEC intersection under Panchlaish police station of Chittagong city around 8pm on Tuesday.

He has been shown arrested in a case filed in connection attempt to murder case.

According to the police, on August 18, the Finance Secretary of Cox's Bazar District BNP, Muhammad Abdullah filed the case mentioning the names of 31 people including Bodi.

On August 16, a case was filed against Bodi, and 32 others on charges of vandalism, looting and attack on businesses in Teknaf.

Bodi was named as the "kingpin" of yaba trafficking on the list prepared by the Department of Narcotics Control.

In a June 2015 report, Bodi topped the list of 79 leading human traffickers of Cox's Bazar according the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Abdur Rahman Bodi was a former MP of the Cox's Bazar-4 constituency during 2009–2019.

Bodi did not get the party's nomination for the 2018 general election.

Instead, his wife, Shahin Akhtar, did and went on to win the election and became the incumbent member of the same constituency.
