The protesting students of Dhaka University refused the request to return to their halls of residence. On Monday, July 15, at around 7:50 PM, Dr. Mohammad Javed Hossain, Provost of Muhammad Shahidullah Hall, made such requests and instructions. However, the students responded by chanting slogans like 'Dalal Dalal' and 'Bhua Bhua', rejecting his instructions.
Around 8:30 PM, Dr. Md. Maksudur Rahman, the Proctor of Dhaka University, arrived in front of Muhammad Shahidullah Hall. He addressed the situation, saying, "We don't have everything under control. If we had the chance, we would have removed the outsiders earlier. Now we will make arrangements to get outsiders inside the hall through the hall provost and house tutors. It is becoming difficult to weed out outsiders before letting students into the hall."
On the ground, several hundred policemen were stationed about 30 yards away from the protesting students, with an armored personnel carrier (APC) on standby. Earlier, the police had moved BCL activists from the hall gate towards Doel Chattar through a barricade.
The situation remains tense as authorities try to manage the conflict between the protesting students and Chhatra League activists, ensuring the safety and order on campus.
