Locals allege police attacked them for speaking against Benazir’s misdeeds
At least four youths were injured after the police charged batons on the villagers in front of the Savanna Eco Resort and Natural Park owned by former IGP Benazir Ahmed in Gopalganj on Saturday evening.
The injured are Biplab Bal, Sanjay Bal, Sagar Bal and Roni.
Biplab Bal said: “In the last two or three years, Benazir Ahmed has taken over the land of the helpless families of our village using various strategies. We didn't dare to open our mouths out of fear.
“Benazir's misdeeds are coming out. So, for the last few days, we have spoken out against him in the media. Because of this, the police attacked us.”
Claiming that they did not charge batons, Gopalganj Sadar Upazila's Boulatli Police Outpost Inspector Md Aminul Islam said: “The employees of Savanna Eco Resort called on the phone to say that local people had gathered in front of the park. The locals also threatened the guard.
“We went there and saw some people gambling inside the shop. So, I scolded them. While leaving the scene in panic, one fell and got hurt. There was no incident of baton charge.”
