Various temple committees in Barisal have allocated a portion of their expenses from celebrating Durga Puja to flood victims in Feni and Comilla.

Many have decided to set up a fund for the flood victims by reducing the cost of decorations and other puja celebrations.

Dakshinaranjan Chakraborty Memorial Durga Temple secretary Ayana Chakraborty said: "This is not help; it is the right of poor people. We have sent the funds for flood victims through the As-Sunnah Foundation. We have cut the spending too much on decorations.”

Barisal Shankar Math Durga Puja Celebration Committee Secretary Tonmoy Das said: “We have already sent Tk20,000 to flood-affected districts, including Feni and Comilla.”

They have also formed a seven-member volunteer committee.

"If people are in danger, who will come forward if not us?" he asked.

Metropolitan Puja Celebration Council has announced that nearly 1,000 temple committees across the city and district have called for help and cooperation in flood relief.

Barisal Metropolitan Puja Celebration Committee President Bhanu Lal De said: “We instructed to reduce all kinds of festivities, including those for Durga Puja and Janmashtami, to save money for flood victims.”

"The decision to send money to flood victims has been made to save costs from these festivals," he said.
