The marks for the oral examination in the BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service) recruitment process have been reduced from 200 to 100.
This decision was made during a meeting of the Secretary Committee on Administrative Development held today.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Md Mokhlesur Rahman, shared this information with reporters after the meeting.
"The oral exam marks in the BCS have been reduced from 200 to 100, in accordance with the new law of 2024," he said.
The senior secretary further explained that earlier, the total BCS exam marks were 1,100, which will now be 1,000, with 100 marks allocated for the oral examination.
Previously, the Public Service Commission (PSC) had sent a proposal to the Ministry of Public Administration to reduce the oral exam marks from 200 to 100.
According to officials, the PSC believes that the 200-mark oral examination opens the door to irregularities.
Many candidates who score poorly in the written exam manage to secure disproportionately high marks in the oral exam, potentially leading to undue advantages.
To eliminate this possibility of unethical practices, the PSC proposed reducing the oral exam marks.
