SCC cancels all leave for officials, employees

In response to continuous rain and flash floods inundating Companiganj and Gowainghat upazilas of Sylhet, the administrations of these upazilas on Tuesday decided to close all tourist spots indefinitely.

As a result, tourists will not be able to visit popular spots like Jaflong, Bisnakandi, Ratargul and Panthumai in Gowainghat as well as Sada Pathor and Utma Chora in Companiganj.

Gowainghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Touhidul Islam said the decision had been taken due to the sudden worsening of the flood situation in the interest of public safety.

Sanjit Kumar Singh, the Companiganj upazila nirbahi officer, confirmed the same decision.

Meanwhile, Sylhet City Corporation Public Relations Officer Sajlu Laskar said all leave for SCC officials and employees had been cancelled.

Due to continuous rainfall and flash floods from upstream, the water level of the Surma River has risen, submerging various areas of Sylhet city. Residents of several wards have been trapped by floodwaters, and several shelters have already been opened in some wards.
