Ruhul Kabir Rizvi makes the announcement

The BNP and its like-minded parties have announced a three-day blockade program across the country from Tuesday.

The blockade will be held on all modes of communication till Thursday to press home their one-point demand of immediate resignation of the ruling government

Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the announcement on Sunday evening.

He said that the blockades will be held in protest of the recent detention of the party's General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir, the assaults during the citywide rallies on Saturday, and the tragic killings of several party activists.

The announcement comes after BNP men were involved in deadly clashes across the country against the law enforcement agencies and Awami League members.

At least 4 buses were torched in Dhaka while several other vehicles were vandalized and set on fire across the country during BNP's dawn-to-dusk hartal on Sunday.

In the morning, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was detained. Additionally, law enforcement agencies conducted search operation at several BNP leader's residence.

Meanwhile, at least 1,300 BNP leaders and activists, including the party’s Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas, have been accused in six cases filed with Shahjahanpur police station in Dhaka over Saturday's clash.
