Mayor Taposh: Public toilets to be constructed in every ward

DSCC mayor inaugurated a new public toilet in the Bangshal area
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said that public toilets will be constructed in each ward.
He said this during an exchange of views with journalists after the inauguration of the Nayabazar public toilet at Bangshal in the capital on Wednesday.
Mayor Taposh said: “Bangshal is a traditional and populous area. It will be convenient for those who come from far and wide for business and other needs. We are assessing the needs and requirements of the people in each ward. We will build public toilets in every ward as per requirement.”
Taposh said that the DSCC already inaugurated new public toilets in six wards, including one in Banshal. Construction is going on in five more wards.
“Many public toilets were closed due to a lack of renovation for a long time, many were occupied. We have cleared and reopened those. Our primary goal is to construct at least one public toilet in every ward. We will increase it later as per requirement,” he added.
Responding to a question from journalists, the DSCC mayor said: "We have been removing waste and silt from the canals and drains as per the annual schedule since January after the WASA handed over those to us so that those are cleaned before the monsoon season and do not cause flooding."
“Apart from this, the work of the projects passed by the prime minister on Jirani, Manda, Shyampur, and Kalungar canals has started. Our work started from Trimohani of Jirani canal. We are now fully excavating, removing waste, and marking boundaries. After that, I will put a circle there. Our consultants have worked on this. There will be walking paths, cycle paths, public spaces, and greenery. In this, the people of the area will get an enjoyable aesthetic environment. The work of this project will be completed in the next two years.”
At that time there were among others - the chief executive officer of the corporation Md Mizanur Rahman, Secretary Akramuzzaman, Chief Engineer Ashikur Rahman, and Dhaka Metropolitan South, Thana, and Ward Awami League leaders.
