Emphasized importance of maintaining progressive education system

Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel has proposed the cancellation of Saturday weekends in educational institutions to maintain effective holidays during the month of Ramadan.

He made this suggestion at the Independence Day discussion meeting held at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium on Tuesday.

During the event, the education minister emphasized the importance of maintaining a progressive education system that promotes inclusivity and rejects orthodoxy.

Regarding the controversy surrounding the opening of schools during Ramadan, Mohibul commented on the necessity of addressing various propaganda efforts.

He proposed the idea of scheduling 52 Saturdays a year for schools, suggesting that minimizing weekend breaks could help mitigate disputes regarding school openings during Ramadan and prevent potential legal and social conflicts.

He stressed the importance of respectful discourse on such sensitive matters, indicating a willingness to engage with scholars to address concerns and uphold the principles of the constitution and the spirit of the Liberation War.

He emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring educational opportunities for all segments of society, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Ministry of Education's consideration of shortening the Saturday weekend comes amid efforts to prevent disruptions in the academic calendar and address concerns raised by various groups regarding school openings during Ramadan.
