The ongoing quota reform movement in Bangladesh has drawn significant international attention, prompting concerns over casualties and government actions. Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen revealed that several countries sought explanations from the government regarding the events surrounding the movement.

Speaking to journalists after briefing diplomats from development partner states at the Rashtriya Guest House Padma, Momen stated that questions were raised about the number of arrests, the potential excessive use of force, and the status of freedom of speech in Bangladesh.

Momen assured that the government had no objections to the United Nations providing technical assistance to the investigation committee already formed in Bangladesh. However, he clarified that the government was not interested in establishing a separate investigation committee.

The briefing aimed to engage with foreign missions to address various rumors circulating domestically and internationally about the recent events. Momen emphasized that there were no obstructions in areas where peaceful assemblies were being held and that the government was committed to transparency.

To address specific concerns, Momen mentioned that a video was shown to foreign ambassadors to prove that the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) did not fire from a helicopter during the protests. The briefing was attended by ambassadors from the United Kingdom, China, Sweden, Qatar, Denmark, Switzerland, India, Russia, Canada, Australia, France, the European Union, and others.

The government's engagement with foreign missions underscores the growing international scrutiny over the situation in Bangladesh, as the country navigates the complexities of the quota reform movement and its implications on civil liberties and governance.
