National polls: Armed forces to be deployed on January 3

To coordinate with returning officers
The armed forces will be deployed on January 3, to maintain the law and security across Bangladesh, ahead of the 12th national polls.
They will be in the field for a total of eight days, till January 10, according to a letter sent from the Armed Forces Division (AFD).
The letter was signed by Brig Gen Husain Muhammad Masihur Rahman, on behalf of the principal staff officer of the Armed Forces.
Following the request of the Election Commission to hold the 12th parliamentary election in a free, fair, neutral and peaceful manner, an order has been issued to deploy armed forces in the 300 constituencies across Bangladesh from January 3 to January 10.
What assistance is being offered
- Members of the armed forces will be deployed at nodal points in every district, upazila and metropolitan area.
- Members of the armed forces will be deployed in the district, upazila and thana in coordination with the returning officers.
- Executive magistrates will be appointed by the returning officers along with the armed forces team and the activities will be taken according to law.
- With the request and coordination of the concerned returning officer, the area-based deployment plan would be finalized and other legal activities should be carried out as per the request of the returning officer and assistant returning officer.
- Detailed planning including the duration of taking and deploying activities before and after the voting day should be made.
The national polls is scheduled to be held on January 7.
