Could not provide evidence of being tortured. Wanted in two cases. Did not seek bail.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal denied BNP's Publicity Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee's claim in court of being tortured, calling it untrue and an attempt to gain the court’s attention.

He made the remarks while replying to a question from journalists after a program at Dhaka University on Friday morning.

The minister explained Anee's arrest, saying: "Anee, a BNP leader, was wanted in two cases. He was aware of this. Then, a case was filed against him in Dhaka, which he also knew about. Typically, when individuals are accused in FIRs or against whom warrants are issued, they go to court to seek bail. Anee should have done the same.”

“However, when he did not secure bail, the police had a duty to arrest him. They asked him to open the door, and his relatives did the same. When he did not comply, the police gently pushed the door open, but it did not break.

"What Anee claimed in court is untrue because he could not provide any evidence of being tortured by law enforcement or anyone at the police station. CCTV footage in the police station did not show any such evidence,” the minister said.

The minister further said: "Court inspector responded politely to Anne’s claim, saying he is still wearing the same white dress he had on when he was arrested. There are no marks or injuries on it. Therefore, these claims are untrue and seem to be made to influence the court.”
