Stands in solemn silence for a while as a mark of respect to the memory of the architect of Bangladesh's independence
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Tuesday morning, on the occasion of Independence Day and National Day.
After visiting the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar, the prime minister paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at his portrait in front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka.
Afterwards, she stood there in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, the architect of Bangladesh's independence.
Sheikh Hasina stayed at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum for some time.
Flanked by central leaders of the ruling Awami League, Sheikh Hasina, its president, laid another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of the party.
On March 26, 1971, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared Bangladesh's independence following the crackdown on unarmed Bangalis on the night of March 25 by Pakistani occupation forces.
After the nine-month War of Liberation with the supreme sacrifices of three million people, Bangladesh achieved its independence on December 16, 1971.
The day is a public holiday.
