Says Bangladesh follows true form of democracy

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that the Western world is not as concerned with the Pakistan election, the way it was with the one in Bangladesh.

"Pakistan's democracy and Bangladesh's democracy are very different. There is no caretaker government in any country of the world, except Pakistan. The Western countries imposed sanctions, and visa restrictions, but they did nothing with Pakistan,” he said.

He made the comments at a press briefing at the political office of the Awami League president in Dhanmondi on Friday.

Quader said there were several reports of violence and vote rigging during Pakistan's election and nine people died in the violence. “So we (Bangladesh) follow the true form of democracy. Our election was fair, even though the opposition did not participate.”

When asked about the agenda of the extended meeting of the Awami League scheduled for Saturday, the general secretary of the party said: "Our party needs strong unity to implement the election manifesto."
