Army chief stresses peaceful resolution to conflicts in Bandarban

Reiterated army's commitment to maintaining peace, stability


Chief of Bangladesh Army General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed emphasized the importance of peaceful resolutions to conflicts while addressing a gathering at the Bandarban army zone on Sunday morning.

He reiterated the army's commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the country.

"We are committed to resolving conflicts peacefully. Our primary goal is not aggression, but rather to achieve peaceful solutions to any challenges we face," said General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed.

He highlighted the army's humanitarian efforts and commitment to upholding human rights, emphasizing Bangladesh's leading role in peacekeeping missions worldwide.

"The Bangladesh Army is known for its compassion and tolerance. We have never violated human rights," he added.

Regarding recent security operations in Bandarban, General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed said that law enforcement agencies had successfully apprehended the miscreants and seized weapons.

He affirmed the government's resolve to ensure the safety and sovereignty of Bangladesh, as directed by the prime minister.

"We are taking necessary measures to address security threats. Our focus is on maintaining peace for the people of Bangladesh," he said.

The army chief also discussed ongoing peace talks with the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) and expressed optimism about reaching a peaceful resolution.

He acknowledged that while some individuals may oppose peace efforts, the army remains committed to restoring peace and stability in the region.

Following his address, General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed engaged in discussions with senior army officers at the region office.

Meanwhile, in Ruma upazila of Bandarban, internal roads have been closed for traffic since Sunday morning due to security concerns arising from recent incidents of bank robbery and armed attacks.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant, and law enforcement agencies are working to restore normalcy in the area.

Besides, Ruma police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shahjahan said that shops were still partially closed in the Ruma market area.
