On the eighth consecutive day of protests by candidates recommended for assistant primary school teacher positions, at least eight protesters were arrested, with six others injured on Thursday.

The protesters, demanding appointment letters and posting, were met with baton charges and water cannons from the police.

One of the recommended candidates, Mohib Ullah, confirmed the details, saying: "Around eight to 10 of our teachers have been arrested and six have been injured due to police action."

He further announced that a press conference would be held at 5:30pm to inform the public about their next course of action.

The protestors gathered in Shahbagh since the morning, blocking traffic along the road towards Science Lab and Mothsho Bhavan.

As a result, vehicle movement was halted.

In an attempt to clear the road, the police used batons and water cannons.

Despite these actions, the protesters remained in place and the police subsequently detained them.

Several protesters fell ill and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
