Speaking at a press briefing held on Monday (April 28) at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road, Dhaka, the IGP said, “All levels of police officers have been instructed to properly investigate cases filed after August 5.”
He further stated, “We are aware that, after August 5, certain groups have been adding numerous innocent people as accused along with the main suspects in cases, with the intention of harassment.”
In response to a question regarding false cases being filed against journalists and others, Baharul Alam explained, “The literacy rate has increased. People now come to the police station with written complaints. When a complainant submits an allegation, we are obligated to register it as a case.”
“At the time of filing, we do not have the opportunity to verify whether the claim is true or false,” he added. "We must accept the complaint as it is presented. However, during the investigation, we determine how much of it is true and how much is fabricated. Only the factual portions are presented before the court, identifying the actual crimes committed."
