The incident occurred at around 5:50 pm on Wednesday (January 28).
Confirming the matter, Fire Service Control Room Duty Officer Rakibul Hasan said, "A fire broke out at the raw market located in Sector 11 of Uttara. Upon receiving the information, three units of the Fire Service reached the spot and started work to control the fire. Later, two more units joined the spot.
Earlier, six people died in a fire on the second floor of a six-story residential building in Sector 11 of Uttara in the capital at 7:50 am on Friday (January 16).
According to fire service sources, two units of Uttara Fire Station reached the spot at 7:54 am and started rescue work. Thirteen people trapped inside the building were rescued alive. The injured and rescued people have been sent to Kuwait Friendship Hospital in Uttara for treatment.
A total of six people, including two women and one man, were trapped inside the building and died of suffocation or burns. The fire was brought under control at 8:25 am after prolonged efforts by the fire service and was completely extinguished by 10 am.
