In Bijoynagar, the conflict erupted when supporters of two BNP groups, led by Mohsin and Shah Alam, attempted to offer flowers at the Shaheed Minar simultaneously.
The dispute quickly escalated into violence, resulting in two party workers, Billal Mia and Jibon Ali, sustaining injuries from sharp weapons.
Both were rushed to the Bijoynagar Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Bijoynagar police station’s OC confirmed that the clash was linked to internal party rivalry and that the situation was now under control.
Legal action will be taken if an official complaint is filed.
Meanwhile, in Nasirnagar, journalist Abdullah Al Mahmud, a reporter for the Daily Kalbela and NTV, was allegedly assaulted while covering a separate altercation at the Shaheed Minar.
According to Mahmud, members of the BNP affiliated Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal mistakenly attacked two individuals from the National Citizens’ Committee, assuming they were Chhatra League members.
When Mahmud attempted to record the incident on his mobile phone, he was allegedly assaulted by Nasirnagar BNP General Secretary KM Bashir Uddin Tuhin and his supporters.
Mahmud sustained injuries to his face, head, and body after being hit with a rod.
Local residents and police intervened, rescuing him and taking him to the Nasirnagar upazila Health Complex for treatment. Nasirnagar police station’s OC, Khairul Alam, confirmed the incident and said that legal action would be taken upon receipt of a formal complaint.
District BNP Convener Abdul Mannan said that he was unaware of the incidents but assured that an internal investigation would be conducted.
