The two leaders met on Saturday at Professor Yunus’s hotel in Rome, shortly after he attended the funeral mass of Pope Francis at St. Peter’s Square.
During their discussions, they emphasized the importance of strengthening trade and investment ties, particularly between Bangladesh and Mercosur member states. Lubetkin underlined Uruguay’s interest in expanding economic collaboration with Bangladesh to promote shared growth and prosperity.
They also explored opportunities for investing in youth and advancing social business enterprises. Both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to the vision of a "Three Zero" world — zero unemployment, zero wealth concentration, and zero net carbon emissions.
Professor Yunus highlighted the need for regular high-level engagement between the two sides and extended an invitation to Minister Lubetkin to visit Bangladesh in the near future.
The meeting was attended by Lamiya Morshed, SDG Coordinator for the Bangladesh government, Tareq Ariful Islam, Bangladesh Ambassador to the Vatican, and Rokebul Haque, Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy.
