The tragic incidents occurred between 10:00 AM and noon on Monday (April 28) in Barura and Muradnagar upazilas, according to local police officials.

Around 10:30 AM, two farmers were killed by a lightning strike while harvesting paddy near the Korbanpur East Para graveyard in the Bangra Bazar area of Muradnagar upazila. The deceased were identified as Jewel Bhuiyan (35), son of Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan from Deora village, and Nikhil Debnath (60), son of the late Bircharan Debnath from Korbanpur village (West Para, Kalibari area).

Eyewitnesses reported that both victims were working in the field when lightning suddenly struck, killing them instantly. Local representative Shafiqul Islam (Union Member) confirmed the incident.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangra Bazar Police Station, Mahfuzur Rahman, stated that they received the information from locals and that the bodies have been handed over to the respective families.

In a separate incident later that day, two schoolboys died after being struck by lightning in Payal Cluster Village under Khoshbas Union in Barura upazila. The victims were identified as Fahad Hossain (13), son of the late Khokon Mia, and Saimon Hossain, grandson of Abdul Barek Mia.

Local sources said both boys were sixth-grade students at Baro Haripur High School. They were flying kites in an open field under slightly overcast skies when lightning struck them. Locals immediately rushed them to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead upon arrival.

The sudden and tragic loss has cast a shadow of mourning over both communities.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barura Police Station, Kazi Nazmul Haque, confirmed that the two teenagers died while flying kites during the lightning strike.
