Senior police officials repeatedly requested the protesters to clear the road, but as they did not comply, water cannons and sound grenades were used to disperse them.
The police fired five sound grenades at the protesters, injuring two individuals.
At present, the situation in front of the Press Club remains tense, but traffic movement has returned to normal.
