Consumers are experiencing skyrocketing commodity prices in the market, which is 66 percent higher than last year.

Most of the products, including onion, egg, meat, pepper, bean and cucumber are being sold at higher prices than the ones fixed by the government.

The Department of Agriculture Marketing has said poor supply management is the main reason for the unregulated prices.

However, consumers complain that syndicates still exist in the market, which are increasing the prices by manipulating the market. They say effective measures are needed to control the market.

National Consumers' Right Protection Deputy Director Bikash Chandra Das said that the monitoring of consumer rights in market regulation is ongoing. “Other agencies of the government are also working,” he said.
