He made the remarks on Wednesday morning after being discharged from the prison cell at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), commonly known as PG Hospital.
Azharul Islam added, “A rally has been organized here by blocking the road. The public should not suffer. I will not speak further now. If God keeps us alive, we will meet again and talk again.”
Earlier in the day, he was officially released from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj at 9:05 AM while under medical care at BSMMU.
A copy of the Supreme Court's Appellate Division verdict, which acquitted him of the death penalty in a crimes against humanity case, had reached Dhaka Central Jail prior to his release. After verifying the necessary documents, the prison authorities completed the release procedure.
On Tuesday, May 27, a full seven-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed, announced the landmark verdict acquitting ATM Azharul Islam.
