On the occasion of the Thirty-First Night and the celebration of the English New Year 2025, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has requested people not to fly lanterns or similar objects in the MRT-6 route alignment and surrounding areas.

The request was made on Monday through a notice signed by DMTCL's Deputy General Manager (Administration), Nazmul Islam Bhuiyan.

The notice said that the commercial operations of Metro Rail on the MRT Line-6, running from Uttara North to Motijheel, are ongoing.

Around 350,000 passengers use Metro Rail services daily on this route.

It is important to note that the Metro Rail operates daily using high-powered electric lines along the Uttara North to Motijheel section.

Flying lanterns or similar objects during the Thirty-First Night or the English New Year celebrations could result in these objects or their remnants getting entangled in the high-powered electric lines, causing severe accidents and potential loss of valuable lives and property.

In this context, a special request has been made not to fly lanterns or similar objects in the MRT-6 route alignment and surrounding areas, from Uttara North to Motijheel, during the Thirty-First Night and the English New Year 2025 celebrations.

The notice further said that if any accidents occur due to flying lanterns or similar objects, the responsible individuals or organizations will face punitive actions under the existing laws.
