The incident occurred around 11:10 am on the 4th floor of Block A at Bangladesh Medical College and Hospital, widely known as PG Hospital.

“We received a report of the fire at 11:14 am. Seven units of the Fire Service immediately rushed to the spot and worked to bring the situation under control,” officials from the Fire Service said.

The cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage were not immediately known. Authorities stated that an assessment would be made once the area is fully secured.

The incident comes just a day after a major fire broke out in the Mohakhali Karail slum on Tuesday (November 25) evening. That fire was brought under control after a five-hour effort by 20 Fire Service units. Although no casualties were reported, several people were injured and at least 1,500 houses were destroyed. A five-member investigation committee has already been formed to determine the cause of the slum fire.
