The High Court bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Asif Hassan passed the order on Wednesday following a writ petition filed over the incident.

Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun and Advocate Tanvir Ahmed represented the petitioners in court.

Earlier, a writ was filed seeking directives to form a technical committee to assess the quality of bearing pads used in the Metrorail and all flyovers across the country. Another petition requested the court to direct authorities to pay Tk 2 crore in compensation to the victim’s family.

The tragic accident occurred around 12:30 pm on October 26 in the Farmgate area of Dhaka, when a bearing pad from the Metrorail track fell and struck Abul Kalam, a passerby. He died on the spot.

The deceased, Abul Kalam, was a resident of Isharpati village in Naria upazila of Shariatpur district.

The court has directed the authorities to submit the expert committee’s findings within a month, focusing on whether there were lapses in safety standards or negligence in maintenance.
