The engagement was held in a private setting at a mosque in Dhaka on Wednesday (December 24). Despite the personal nature of the event, the two student leaders made a public statement by displaying a festoon bearing the words “Justice for Hadi,” placed alongside their engagement rings.
Photos from the ceremony later circulated on social media, showing GS Farhad and AGS Mohiuddin standing with the message in support of justice for Hadi. The gesture came amid criticism on social media, where some questioned the timing of the engagement just six days after Hadi’s killing. Supporters said the display clarified the DUCSU leaders’ position and reaffirmed their commitment to seeking justice.
It was learned that SM Farhad is engaged to Jannatul Ferdaus Sanjida, an executive member of the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CHAKSU). Sanjida hails from Sonagazi upazila of Feni district and is a student of the Department of Sociology at Chittagong University in the 2022–23 academic session.
No information has yet been disclosed regarding the engagement partner of DUCSU AGS Mohiuddin Khan.
Sources said the engagement ceremony was originally scheduled for mid-December but was postponed following the killing of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, reflecting the organizers’ decision to delay the event in mourning.
