Expatriates made history by sending the highest single-month remittance in Bangladesh's history this December, according to Bangladesh Bank. A total of $2.639 billion was sent through banking channels, breaking the previous record of $2.598 billion in July 2020 during the Covid-19 period.
Husne Ara Shikha, spokesperson and executive director of Bangladesh Bank, confirmed the new record.
Bangladesh Bank's latest data shows that from July 1 to December 31 in FY25, the country received $13.777 billion in remittances, a significant increase from $10.80 billion during the same period in FY24. This marks a year-on-year (YoY) growth of almost $3 billion.
Additionally, Bangladesh received nearly $27 billion in remittances during the 2024 calendar year, reflecting a 22% YoY growth. The remarkable contributions of expatriates have once again underscored their pivotal role in bolstering the nation’s economy.
