Delhi Police confirmed that a “very powerful explosion” occurred near the Red Fort, leaving many injured. The blast caused at least three to four vehicles in the vicinity to catch fire.

Footage circulating from the scene showed a large crowd gathering as flames engulfed several cars. One video captured the door of a vehicle blown off by the force of the explosion, while another showed a completely destroyed car and shattered windshields in nearby vehicles. Several injured individuals were seen lying on the ground as bystanders rushed to help.

The New Delhi Fire Service said multiple firefighting teams were dispatched immediately after receiving reports of the explosion near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station. At least 20 fire units are currently working to bring the blaze under control. Authorities have cordoned off the area, suspending normal traffic movement.

Police said the exact cause and nature of the explosion are still under investigation. A forensic and technical team has arrived at the scene to collect evidence.

The Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of India’s most iconic landmarks, is located in a densely populated area of central Delhi and draws thousands of visitors daily.
