Five people were killed overnight when a house sheltering displaced families collapsed in the Bir an-Naaja area in northern Gaza, the ministry said.
Later, two more people died after a wall collapsed onto tents in the Remal area of Gaza City. Earlier, another person died following a structural collapse in the Shati refugee camp.
A newborn baby also died in al-Mawasi due to extreme cold weather, according to medical sources.
Doctors in Gaza said hospitals are seeing more deaths linked to exposure to cold and poor shelter conditions. Medical staff reported the deaths of several children and infants who were living in temporary shelters and tents damaged by rain and wind, reports Al Jazeera.
In southern Gaza’s Khan Younis, an eight-month-old baby died after floodwater entered the family’s tent during heavy rainfall. The family had been living in a damaged house after their home was destroyed earlier.
Aid workers and officials warned that the storm could affect around 850,000 people sheltering in more than 700 temporary sites across Gaza. Many tents and makeshift shelters have been damaged or destroyed by the storm, leaving families without protection.
Authorities warned that heavy rain and flooding could continue, worsening conditions for displaced families already struggling due to the ongoing conflict.
