This is Rajshahi's second BPL title. Earlier, the franchise was champion under the name Rajshahi Royals in the 2019-20 BPL season. Meanwhile, Comilla Victorians have won the title a maximum of four times in the history of BPL. Dhaka has won the title three times. Barisal has won the title twice, the same as Rajshahi. Rangpur Riders has won the title once.
On Friday (January 23) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Chittagong captain Sheikh Mehedi Hasan won the toss and invited Rajshahi to bat. Rajshahi got off to a flying start. Tanjid's stormy innings and Sahibzada's patient batting put on 83 runs for the opening pair. Farhan was dismissed for 30 runs off 30 balls.
Tanjid put on a 47-run stand with Kane Williamson, who came out to play for the second wicket. Williamson scored 24 runs off 15 balls before being dismissed by Shariful Islam.
Meanwhile, opener Tanjid Hasan Tamim continued to play in his own style. After completing his fifty, the left-handed batsman also scored a century. This is the fourth century in this season of the BPL. And Tanjid became the third batsman to score a century in the BPL final. Previously, Chris Gayle and Tamim Iqbal had scored centuries in the final.
In the end, Tanjid's innings ended at 100 runs. His impeccable innings, played in just 62 balls, was studded with six fours and seven sixes. And team captain Nazmul Hossain Shanta scored 11 runs from his bat. Meanwhile, Jimmy Neesham remained unbeaten on 7 runs.
Shariful Islam and Mukidul Islam were the successful bowlers for Chittagong Royals. Both of them took two wickets each.
Chasing the run, Chittagong Royals came under pressure from the start. With the team trailing by 18 runs, two batters returned to the crease. Opener Mohammad Naeem Sheikh scored 9 runs off 10 balls. Mahmudul Hasan Joy could not open the score after playing 2 balls. Meanwhile, Hasan Newaz scored 11 runs off 7 balls.
Wicketkeeper-batter Zahiduzzaman came out to bat for the fourth wicket. Mirza Baig fought with him for a while. But due to the slow batting of both of them, the match went out of Chittagong's reach. Zahiduzzaman was dismissed for 11 runs off 13 balls. Mirza Baig scored 39 runs off 36 balls before being dismissed.
