Speaking at the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh’s best reporting award ceremony at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), he said the crime situation in Dhaka is currently under control and the upcoming February 12 election is the police’s top priority.

He noted that 2024’s July Movement and the turbulence in 2025 posed major challenges. 

To ensure neutrality and efficiency, extensive reshuffling of police officers has been carried out through a lottery system, selecting OCs from Dhaka-based officers to avoid operational difficulties.

On candidate security, the commissioner said protection is being provided based on threat assessments by the Special Branch (SB), adding that several individuals, including election commissioners, have already been given gunmen.

Regarding the killing of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, he said police are examining videos allegedly released by prime accused Faisal Karim Masud and will comment after the review is complete.
