He made the remarks at a workshop for journalists held at the Election Training Institute on Saturday (December 6) afternoon.

The interim government has already declared that the 13th parliamentary elections will be held in February. Based on this, the EC initially planned to announce the schedule in the first half of December. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin also indicated earlier that the schedule could be announced in the second week of December.

This year, a national referendum will take place alongside the 13th parliamentary elections. As part of the commission’s preparations, a national meeting was held at the Election Building in Agargaon on Saturday, where Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed was present.

Akhtar Ahmed spoke at the workshop titled “Introduction to the Representation of the People Order, 1972 (with latest amendments); Rules of Conduct of Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections, 2008 (with latest amendments); and Election Officers (Special Provisions) Act, 1991.” The training was jointly organized by the UNDP and the Reporters Forum for Elections and Democracy (RFED).

Speaking to journalists, he said, “We were in a meeting on election preparations from 11:30 am.”

Regarding the election schedule, he added, “The Election Commission has not yet been able to finalize the date for the announcement.”

Despite this, he affirmed that the EC is fully prepared to conduct the elections and urged everyone to refrain from spreading misinformation about the electoral process.
