The victim was identified as Md. Ashraful Haque, aged 43, a resident of Shyampur, Badarganj, Rangpur. His father’s name is Md. Abdur Rashid, police confirmed.

According to officials, the Crime Scene Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrived at the scene around 7:15 pm and identified the body using fingerprint analysis.

However, investigators have yet to determine who was behind the killing or how the body ended up in front of the National Eidgah.

Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Ramna Division, Masud Alam, told reporters, “Two men came in a van between 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm on Thursday and left the two drums by the roadside. That’s all the locals could confirm. Later in the evening, when a foul smell spread, police were informed. Upon opening the drums, a dismembered body wrapped in black polythene was found inside, mixed with rice.”

He added that police are reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify those involved in dumping the drums.

Earlier, around 6 pm, police had opened the drums and discovered the body cut into several pieces. Witnesses said a strong foul odor was emanating from the containers.

A local named Shahadat Hossain, who helped open the drums, recounted, “The police asked me to open them. When I did, I found the body of one person cut into multiple pieces.”

Investigators suspect that the killers murdered Ashraful Haque several days earlier and later dumped his body in the drums before abandoning them in front of the National Eidgah.

Police say an investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators and uncover the motive behind the gruesome killing.
