She made the announcement on Facebook this afternoon.

Dhaka-9 comprises Khilgaon, Sabujbagh, Mugda and Manda areas where she will be running against former Chhatra Dal general secretary Habibur Rashid Habib with the BNP ticket, and Jamaat-e-Islami's Kabir Ahmed, central vice-president of the Bangladesh Workers Welfare Federation.

In the post, Tasnim wrote that although election laws cap campaign expenditure at Tk 25 lakh for each candidate, the reality is often starkly different. "We heard that many candidates spend Tk 20 crore, Tk 50 crore, or even up to Tk 100 crore, yet still declare only Tk 25 lakh to the Election Commission," she said.

As a result, the journey to parliament for many begins with "breaking the law and resorting to falsehood" she added.

"I refuse to engage in politics built on dishonesty and deceit," she wrote.

The NCP leader further said, "I have applied for the NCP nomination in Dhaka-9, and I pledge not to spend a single penny beyond the legally permitted limit."

She added, "We will regularly disclose how much money we receive and spend -- even before the election. Everything will be conducted transparently."
